Manifests and hashes
Restored data has to match recorded manifests and checksums, not anyone’s memory of how it looked.
Recovery · 22 October 2026
It is the ability to return without losing the truth of what happened. On 22 October 2026, the system behind this site met a real failure.
What happened
Dates only where the record has them. Nothing between them is filled in.
Recorded at 23:29 UTC, the evening before. It keeps that date and is never relabeled as current.
An electrical fire/power failure disabled the Home server and stopped the active environment.
Safety came first: shutdown and isolation of the damage, before any attempt to recover.
Services and continuity paths were restored from preserved sources. Original histories and source custody were retained. Recovery work continued under explicit holds, rather than rewriting the past or manufacturing a clean result.
Verification continues item by item. What is not finished stays held, and the limits below stay open.
The model it tested
How a return is verified
Kinds of proof, not the proof itself.
Restored data has to match recorded manifests and checksums, not anyone’s memory of how it looked.
Each service has to start from a selected, recorded source rather than whatever happens to be present.
Each reader has to be bound to the source it may read, so a restored copy is never mistaken for the original.
Services that actually use restored data have to leave receipts of what they consumed.
Original records have to be kept as they were, never overwritten by the restore.
Every step has to record how far it can be undone, and to what.
Held This event’s own records are held, not shown here. Receipt publication remains selective. Redacted receipts can support due diligence without disclosing credentials or private continuity content.
What it did not prove
A return is evidence about this event and these paths. It is not a certificate for everything else.
What it means
The preserved sources, the original histories, and their custody.
The active environment stopped; its services had to start again.
Services and continuity paths, from preserved sources.
Whatever has not finished verification, under explicit holds.
Continuity is not “nothing ever breaks.” It is being able to say what survived, what changed, what was restored, what remains held, and why.
The model, the receipts, and what capital would harden next.
